A Post Medieval copper alloy crotal bell, dating AD 1650-1800. The object is spherical with a rectangular loop at the top. The pea is still present within the bell. There is a circumferential ridge, separating the two hemi-spheres. The upper hemisphere has two opposing sound holes. The lower hemi-sphere has a sound slit with a sound hole at either end. The object is otherwise undecorated. It has a dark-mid green patina.
Many crotal bells like this are recorded on the PAS database, cf. ESS-E27D38 and these decorated examples tend to date from the late 17th-18th century.
