Early Medieval strap end fragment, sheet copper alloy with incised decoration representing an animal's face; two recessed eyes surrounded by rings are separated by curved lines forming an X, Chevrons mark the nose. While resembling ninth century strap ends this fragment is thinner than usual and the decoration is incised rather than cast. The upper, truncated edge does not appear broken and has been expanded by hammering. Length 16.0mm, Width 12.0mm, Thickness 1.0mm, Mass 0.99g.
