Roman brooch of 'bow and fantail' type. Cast copper alloy with enamel inlay, traces of tinning/silvering on the head. The foot is expanded to form the 'fan' its surface inlaid with three triangular panels containing red champleve enamel. These are surrounded by a band of 'rocked tracer' decoration. The bow has a square section, 4.1 x 3.4mm with two longitudinal grooves down its length. The wings on the head are cylindrical with narrow plate extending across its end. Attached to this plate is an integrally cast terminal loop. The pin is of hinged type and survives as does the catch plate.
