A complete copper alloy early medieval (early Anglo-Saxon) buckle. It has a D-shaped frame with a slightly recessed strap bar. Around this a simple plate is attached consisting of two retangular sections attached to one another with two strips at the fold, leaving a gap in the middle where a simple wire pin remains in situ. The two plates are secured with an in situ copper alloy rivet at each outer corner. It survives in fine condition with little damaged and a bright green patina.
The buckle belongs to Marzinzik's Typegroup II.19b, which comprises of buckles with rectangular copper alloy plates and dates to the early Anglo-Saxon period c. AD 450-720.
