A fragment of a ceramic vessel of medieval date. The fragment is the handmade handle from a Sandy Red Ware vessel, such as a tall jug. Abundant, uniform sand temper is present within the fabric and erupting at the surface. The fabric has a coarse texture. Reduced pale grey core and oxidised pale orange exterior. A pale cream-white slip is present on the exterior surface of the handle, upper side only.
Sandy Red Ware was produced across the Yorkshire region in the 13th - 15th centuries.
