A complete Post Medieval silver bodkin with integral ear scoop dating from the 17th century. The ear scoop is at one end of the bodkin, and consists of a circular bowl. One side of the bowl has been bent over. Below this is a sub triangular shape with a circular hole pierced through. Underneath this is a panel decorated with incised cross hatching, flanked by two moulded lines. The next section has a rectangular hole cut out, measuring 12.2mm by 1.6mm. Either side of the hole is decorated with four groups of three incised diagonal lines, in between these are small lines following the shape of the rectangular hole. Below this is another panel decoration with incised cross hatching, flanked by two moulded lines. This then continues into the shank of the bodkin, which gradually narrows to the terminal point. At the top of this section the shank is decorated with incised decoration in the shape of a triangle, decorated with diagonal and straight lines. All the decoration is identical on the other side. Half way down the bodkin there is a bend in the shaft. The bodkin measures 122.2mm in length, 4.9mm in width, and 2.1mm in thickness. It weighs 6.36g.
