A glass intaglio probably from a fob seal, or possibly a brooch insert, of post-medieval / early modern date. The intaglio depicts a female figure standing holding anchor and pointing upwards, set into an oval copper alloy case. The rear has the remains of attachment points to the top and bottom of the oval. Introducing the classically dressed female into the symbolism brings it into the contemporary times of the late 18th century. The figure of hope is pointing upwards towards the heavens, denoting a death. This is perhaps a mourning piece.
