Post Medieval unidentified object: The lead or lead alloy object is cast. It is sub-square in plan with some lower edges of two quarters being damaged. Where the edge is complete, they form a right-angled edge. The outer face of the object has a high-relief cross with a serif at the terminals. The arms of the cross are triangular in section. The reverse is slightly convex. The surface has a mottled light grey and oxidised cream colour. It measures 21.65mm long, 20.31mm wide, 7.04mm thick and weighs 9.91g.
The identification of this object is not certain. One possible function is a lead token, but its depth of decoration and overall shape would be unusual for a token. It could be a type of badge or brooch but there are no indications of fittings on the reverse, unless they were sited at the damaged section. It may be a weight, but usually such weights are larger. The object may be dated to the Medieval to Post Medieval periods based on the style of the cross and surface condition.
