PLATE BROOCH

Unique ID: SF-8DC386

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Copper alloy enamelled zoomorphic brooch in the form of a running dog. Missing part of the front leg, ear tip and probably tail tip and the tail is slightly bent. The pin is hinged between two close set lugs. The plate is flat, 2mm thick, with limited detail definition (snout, ears, back paw). The body has a single enamelled panel - this seems to be a discoloured red but with ?yellow patches in it at the front and back and a circular one in the middle. The circular eye cell also contains discoloured ?yellowish enamel. Length 36mm, paw to tail height 17mm. Shape as Hattatt no 1187, but with the paw form as 1188 and enamel cell as no 610. There are also very similar examples from Suffolk (ABK 001, HTC 002).

Class: Zoomorphic (dog)
