A cast iron handle, probably from a Post-Medieval skillet or other cooking vessel, dating from AD 1650 - 1850. The central part of the handle is in the form of a narrow teardrop. At one end of the teardrop is a broad collar before an oval loop set perpendicular to the handle In the centre of the outer edge of the loop is a short, rectangular knop. At the opposite, narrower end of the teardrop is a second, narrower collar, extending at the sides, before a broader, down-curving neck and a wide, bi-lobed terminal. Each of the lobes of the terminal is pierced to take an iron fastening rivet: both rivets remain in place. The central body of the handle is pierced with two longitudinal, shield shaped holes, set with the broad edges back to back. The handle has broken across the inner of these two piercings; the break is unpatinated and probably recent. The handle is 147.2mm long, 54.8mm wide and 9.9mm thick. It weighs 72.05gm.
