A cast copper alloy mount or fitting, probably for furniture and dating to the post-medieval period, circa AD 1650-1850.
The object is circular in plan and is flat with a central domed pellet in relief. The object has a circumferential rim in light relief. Surrounding the central pellet are sixteen oval shaped perforations that create an openwork design. In between the perforations, ribs are created that expand towards the outer edge of the object and have rounded moulded terminals. The decoration is possibly representing trees or foliage. The reverse face is undecorated and has the remains of a central rivet or attachment. The object has a dark green to brown coloured well-developed patina.
The closest parallel recorded on the PAS database is CORN-FDEEB6 discovered in Cornwall. Bailey (2001:pgs 15-21) illustrates a number of door handles with a similar openwork design. No.54 is dated to the 18th century and shows vine foliage and no. 27 has an openwork daisy design and is dated to Mid-18th to early19th century.
The diameter is 48.3mm, thickness 6.23mm and the weight 18.4g.
