SCRAPER (TOOL)

Unique ID: NLM-D64B54

Object type certainty: Certain

Grey flint scraper. Oval flake with cortex patch with broad flakes trimmed from its dorsal side and a bulbar ventral surface. Angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a curved edge, and this was subsequently battered on one side. Dense misty patina on struck surfaces suggests a period of exposure to a calcareous environment. Subsequent very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect has removed the patina from that part of the previous working edge which had not incurred damage. Both episodes may be accommodated within the Early Bronze Age. Suggested date: 2350-1600 BC.

Length: 23.8mm, Width: 29.3mm, Thickness: 8.3mm, Weight: 6.02gms
