A Roman copper-alloy mount in the form of a fully modelled bird, apparently a duck. The bird is seated with its wings outstretched and with the head set back along its wide body. The bird has a large bill and an apparent broken suspension loop sits behind the head. Below the breast is a hook which faces back and the hollow thus formed may have been attached to a rounded bar. Hollow circular eyes and another circular hollow in the upper surface of the back suggest missing glass settings. The mount retains the remains of a white metal coating.
The mount is of uncertain original function but may have been attached to a vessel.
