Incomplete medieval copper alloy sharp hooked dress fastener of hollow semi-circular cross-section tapering very slightly to the closed end from which springs an integral hook (end missing). An offset runs the length of the long sides and lies against a sheet back-plate which is broken across a cut square hole (width 8.5mm). The convex face is decorated with a pair of transverse grooves near both ends, and between them with four sets of three filed lines forming a lozenge, inlaid with niello. Extant length 28mm, length (without hook) 19mm, width 16mm, thickness 7mm. Cf. Ward Perkins 1940, pl. LXXVI no.9. Read 2008 early post-medieval single sharp-hooked Class C, Type 3. Early 16th century.
