STEELYARD WEIGHT

Unique ID: SWYOR-364F05

Object type certainty: Probably
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A lead weight possible of Roman date, perhaps from a steelyard. The weight is ovoid or egg-shaped and has a circular perforation through it from top to bottom which would have housed an iron suspension loop. Overall the weight is 60.5mm long, 45.7mm diameter and weighs 649g. This is roughly equivilent to 2 Roman libre, though there is no need for a steelyard weight to conform to a specific weight. It could also be of later date.
