A Post Medieval (16th century) copper-alloy purse bar minus its outer arms, handle and frame. On either side of the central block is a pair of animal heads whose open mouths grip the bar. Beyond the mouths are groups of closely-spaced grooves which run along the bar. The central boock is decorated on both sides and inlaid with niello. On one side is a shield within a frame and with pellets in the field. The other side of the block has a saltire with parallel lines and a single pellet in each field.
