An almost complete post-Medieval copper-alloy mount in the form of an acorn (c. 1600-c. 1700).
The mount is convex at the front and concave at the rear. At the front it has a horizontal band dividing the fruit from the cupola. There is a 'stalk' at the bottom. At the rear there are two tapering spikes, one at each end. Both are circular in cross-section and the tip of one is missing due to a break.
The mount has a green patina with traces of gilding at the front.
Height: 42.0mm; width: 24.9mm; thickness: 3.9mm; thickness including spikes: 6.8mm. Weight: 7.67g.
Mounts in similar form and style have been published by Brian Read. These published mounts have been dated by Read to c. 1600-c. 1700 AD (Read 2001: 29, fig. 22, refs: 331-334).
