An incomplete Iron Age to Roman copper-alloy one-piece brooch (c. AD 25-100).

This is mainly the bow of a brooch. A stub of the spring/pin and a small portion of the catch-plate survive.

The bow is convex at the front and almost flat (slightly convex) at the rear. It tapers in width from the head towards the bottom. The front is decorated with two central vertical columns of sub-circular indentations. At the top, each column is angled towards the edge at an angle of about 45°. There is a shallow horizontal grooves at the top. In side profile the bow is arched.

This brooch is corroded and pitted and has a dark green patina. The breaks are old.

Length: 32.4mm; width: 5.0mm; thickness: 1.9mm. Weight: 2.06g.

The brooch is a La Tene III Nauheim derivative type which dates to c. 25 to 100 AD (Worrell, S. 2007 'Roman Brooch Timeline' North-West PAS Newsletter).
