A lead alloy spindle whorl of medieval to post-medieval date. The object is circular in plan and bi-conical with a large central circular perforation. The perforation has an internal diameter of 11mm. One face is decorated with a moulded starburst design and four raised pellets evenly spaced. The opposite face is decorated with a worn starburst design across which are extra moulded lines creating a cross-hatched effect. Within each point of the 'star' is a single pellet. The object has a light white patina and is in fair condition.
Similar examples of spindle whorls have reportedly been found in contexts dated from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period although the majority are typically dated broadly to the Medieval period c.1100-1500.
