A silver oak tree Massachusetts three pence, issued by colony of Massachusetts, North America, dating to the Post-Medieval period. Reverse: NEW ENGLAND; 1652 III.

Though dated '1652', such coins tend to be attributed to the period c. 1667 - c. 1674 AD. The argument is that the date either alludes to the foundation of the mint at Massachusetts or fixes a point during the British Commonwealth thus legitimising the colonists right to strike coinage which was otherwise reserved for the king, (Webley, R (2012) HAMP-936A71 A POST MEDIEVAL COIN Webpage available at: http://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/485861).

Coins issued by this colony are rare to date examples which have been recorded on the PAS database include LVPL-043BD7, LVPL-1CFD55, HAMP-936A71 and IOW-D80EF7
