A ceramic base sherd from a wheel-thrown Roman coarse ware vessel dating to the period c. AD 200 - 410. The fabric is hard-fired and is off-white in colour with sparse red and black inclusions. The exterior surface exhibits traces of a red-brown paint. The underside of the base has an irregularly shaped recess. All breaks appear abraded. The sherd is likely to derive from an Oxfordshire parchment ware vessel of uncertain form.
The sherd measures 20.42mm in height, 58.19mm in diameter, tapering to 42.27mm at the base, is 6.88mm thick and weighs 38.36g.
