A Post Medieval complete cast copper alloy rumbler or 'crotal' bell with intact iron pea, c. 1500-1750 AD. The bell is divided into two hemispheres by a prominent ridge which runs around the centre of the bell. The upper hemisphere is undecorated with two large sound holes, positioned opposite each other. The lower hemisphere houses the large sound slit which has some damage at one end and is also undecorated like the upper hemisphere. A crude, irregular shaped square loop extends up from the top of the upper hemisphere and seems to be integrally cast. The loop is pierced by a square hole which may have worn round at the top. The metal survives in a poor condition and is a mid greyish-green colour. These bells were used on animal harnesses, either singularly or in groups on horse or oxen harnesses.
