An incomplete Post Medieval copper alloy rowel spur, dating to the 17th-18th century. All that remains is the neck and the rowel. The two arms terminate in a flattened circular section, flaring away from the rowel. There is a double collar at the broken end, just before where the heel band would have been. The rowel has seven spikes and the axial rod is missing, meaning the rowel is now loose. Orange brown staining around the rowel suggests the axial rod would have been made of iron.
Similar examples are recorded on the PAS database, cf. SOM-F7C306. Rowel spurs existed from the Medieval period, though examples with decorated necks tend to date from the 17th century onwards.
