A copper alloy five pointed star-shaped rowel from a spur, of Medieval or Post Medieval date, about AD 1300 - 1700. It consists of five wide sub-lozenge shaped points evenly arranged around a circular hub that has a circular perforation in the centre for attachment. There is a slight groove between the points.
Such spur rowels were used in both the medieval and post-medieval periods, and are therefore difficult to date more specifically when found outside of an archaeological context. Compare GLO-F51FB0 and CORN-98F466 which cite Read 2001, Fig 42, nos. 505-510.
The rowel is 51.5mm diameter, 3.4mm thick and 18.7g.
