A Post Medieval double looped buckle dating AD 1550 - 1700. The copper alloy frame is a double looped and sub-oval in plan. At the apex of the loops there is a recessed star or flower as decoration. The strap bar is narrowed and a rounded triangle in section. There is a projecting knop at each end of the strap bar, with the casting flange not trimmed off at one end. In profile the frame has been bent forming a very wide 'V'. The pin is missing. The surface of the frame has a green patina with patches of a black coating (linseed oil?). The buckle measures 47mm long, 29.5mm wide and 2.4mm thick. 6.92g.
Similar examples are illustrated in Whitehead (1996), number 407 for example, which is dated to the mid 16th to mid 17th century. Egan (2005) illustrates a similar buckle, No. 88 and dates this to the 17th century.
