WH2 Body Sherds.
Site Summary: A fieldwalked assemblage of material from several adjacent fields in the Westhope area of the Corvedale, South Shropshire. The site has been classified as a deserted or heavily shrunken medieval village based on the high percentage of domestic pottery vessels - especially cooking pots which date from the late 12th - 14th centuries (AD1150 - c.1350).
Overview: Two sherds of local earthenware pottery most probably from similar thin walled jug like vessels. From the size of the sherds the size and capacity of the vessels cannot be estimated. The sherds are most likely to date from the late 12th - 14th centuries (AD1150 - c.1350). Similar jugs with a white slip and transparent splash glaze are known to have come from kilns located in Worcester.
The fragments measure:
Largest Sherd: 47.9 mm high, 38.3 mm in width, 7.2 mm thick and weighs 18.3 grams.
