A worn silver shilling of Charles I (r. 1625-1649). Minted in 1645 at the Tower of London with eye mint mark, North No, 2232. Obverse: Crowned Bust left with XII behind (Sixth Bust, Briot. Widespread double arched crown [collar with large stellate lace border]), '+CARO[LV]S D G [MAG] BRI [FR ET HIB R]EX'. Reverse: Square shield over cross moline with large ends, '+CHRISTO [AUSPICE] REG[INO]'. Bust extensively worn and coin is highly abraded around the circumference which has been exacerbated by substantial clipping.
Measurements: 28.51mm in diameter, 1.32mm thick and 5.89g in weight.
