A cast copper alloy sword or dagger chape dating from the Medieval period, (1100-1500). The object is tubular narrowing in width towards the base and is oval in cross-section. The chape consists of a single flattened sheet of copper alloy which has been folded over leaving a join running down the rear of the object. Both the base and the top of the object are open and the top is decorated with transverse diagonal lines and dots within a lined border. The length is 35mm, width 12mm and the weight is 4.48g.
