A Post Medieval copper alloy coin weight, dating to the reign of James I (AD 1603-1625). The object is square in plan with a double sided cast motif. One face depicts a bust facing left with laurel crown within a circle of pellets. The reverse face depicts a large crown with the letters X and S below inside a pellet circle. The weight was used for the a Gold Half Laurel of James 1st (3rd coinage) value 10 shillings (120 pence). A parallel can be seen on the database (DOR-54A15E) which is a coin weight also dating to James I, used for the value of twenty shillings.
The coin weight measures 15.51 mm x 15.35 mm, the thickness is 2.99mm and it weighs 3.3g.
