Incomplete sub-rectangular frame from strap clasp. Outside edge has an integrally cast crowned head with crudely incised features, broken across the outer two of four drilled holes in the crown. Slightly curved rectangular-sectioned sides and stump of narrowed oval-sectioned bar. Length 34mm. Width 18mm. A folding clasp with the head of a king, from London, is illustrated and discussed in Egan and Pritchard (1991) no.568. Cf. a broadly similar object from Emneth, Norfolk (HER 36164). Other examples with crowned heads are known from Dover and Lincolnshire. 14th century.
