Flint plunging blade, rhomboidal in plan, plano-convex in profile and triangular in section, with unifacial retouch along the whole of the left margin to sharpen the edge, and along the right margin to blunt the edge, of the dorsal face. A layer of cortex remains across the distal end of the dorsal face and this has been removed on either side of the layer, at the edge of the medial ridge. This was probably done to remove bulbous areas of the cortex, possibly for ease of hafting. The proximal end has been truncated beyond the bulb of percussion, and the curvature of the flake is indicative of how it was struck off of the flint core.
The colour of the flint is a mottled light to dark grey, underneath the white patination and patches of orange iron staining, and the colour and rough texture of the cortex suggests that the flake was derived from a local beach pebble.
Bond (2004) illustrates a similar blade on page 137, fig.5.124, no.F24, which is dated from the Neolithic period.
Butler (2005) illustrates a similar serrated blade on page 131, fig.55, no.3, which is dated from the Neolithic period.
Mercer (1981) illustrates a similar backed and truncated serrated-edge flake from Carn Brea on page 143, fig.63, no.L203, which is dated from the Neolithic period.
