An incomplete cast copper-alloy vessel foot dating from the medieval to post-medieval periods, c. 1200-1700 AD. Only the tip and mid-section of the foot remain, with the upper part of the object having broken away due to old damage. The fragment is sub-trapezoidal, and sub-rectangular in cross-section. The foot tapers slightly towards its base, before flattening and rounding off where it would have supported the vessel it was originally attached to.
The object measures 27.84mm long, 24mm wide at its top, 20.74mm wide at its midpoint and 14.93mm thick at its midpoint. It weighs 45.4g, and is preserved in fairly good condition with an uneven greenish brown patina covering most of its surfaces.
Copper-alloy feet such as this example can originate from a variety of containers, though the small size of this example suggests possible original attachment to a ewer or skillet. Copper-alloy vessels utilised mainly for cooking are noted from the 13th century onwards, though appear to have remained in use right up until the beginning of the 18th century. For this reason, a wide date range has been assigned to this object.
