A half-round copper alloy side knob from a cruciform brooch of early Anglo-Saxon date. It has a circular dome with flat base, and a narrowed waist. The base is decorated with a central circumferential groove, and has a small, sub-rectangular tab extending down from one edge, with worn edges. Iron corrosion remains on the base of the knob, which is likely to represent the remains of the iron pin bar which was held by the knob. There also appear to be traces of iron corrosion at the top of the dome.
The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. The knob is 14mm long, 8.3mm in diameter and weighs 2.6g.
