An Early Medieval copper alloy strap end, dating to the period c.AD 750-950. The strap end is broadly ovate in plan, with a narrowed closed terminal. The open terminal is scalloped and mirrors the placement of two circular rivets placed side by side. Decoration comprises a zoomorphic terminal with stylised ears at the closed terminal, and trewhiddle style decoration on the main body, now too worn to discern clearly. The reverse is undecorated, although the rivets are present. A green patina is on the surface.
The strap end is 33.31mm in length, 12.31mm in width, 2.87mm in thickness and weighs 5.5g.
This is Gabor's Class A, Type 1. Cf. Gabor (2003), P.3, Fig 1, nos. 1-4.
