STRAP END

Unique ID: BERK-4CB2AE

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A complete copper alloy strap end of later medieval date (c.AD 1100 - 1500). The object has a solid globular terminal from which extends a solid collar which then splits into two rectangular plates. An iron rivet at located at the end of the plates joins them both and would have secured the leather strap in place.Several examples of this type of strap end can be seen on the PAS database, the majority of which are recorded as Medieval in date (e.g. HAMP-2CE645, SUSS-6D1711). However some are thought to date to as late as the 17th Century (NCL-1D0882) and others even as early as the 8th Century AD (NMS-A59A63, NMS-F1E456 or NMS-EFA978).
