An incomplete sheet copper alloy dagger scabbard chape of the late medieval period. This example is made from a plain copper alloy sheet, about 1mm thick, which has been folded into a conical shape. The edges have been overlapped, with iron corrosion near the top of the chape suggesting it was secured by means of a small rivet, as well as probable soldering. The base (tip) of the chape is broken and missing. The are four horizontal indenations running across the front of the chape as decoration, while the reverse is plain and undecoated. This style of chape was in use between c. AD 1300-1500.
