An incomplete copper alloy late Iron Age to early Roman knobbed terret (rein guide). It is roughly D-shaped. There is a narrowed bar, rectangular in cross-section, across the base, which would have allowed attachment to a vehicle. To either side of this there is a raised collar. The curved frame extends from these, this is oval in cross-section and tapers gradually towards the upper part of the terret. In the centre of the outer face of each side there is a three-lobed knob and in the centre of the outer face of the apex there is a four-lobed knob. One of the sign knobs is now largely missing. There are significant signs of wear on the upper sides of the terret, between these knobes. A fine dark green patina survives in places, but there are also several patches of heavy corrosion.
Anna Lewis (pers. com.) comments that although 'it is a bit on the small side... it is probably a "true" terret rather than a mini terret looking at the wear and it is big enough to have functioned properly'.
