A thick copper alloy metal plate from a fitting of probable Roman date, with one integral and one separate (within a sunken circle) rivet. The fitting has a hinge with a short iron bar and a short rounded projecting terminal raised above the upper face. There are traces of a white metal surface adjacent to the hinge. The fitting has two crescentic cut-outs on the sides and an inscribed bordering line with punched marks between this and the outer edge.
