A complete Medieval to post-Medieval sheet copper-alloy scabbard chape (c. 1350-c. 1600).
This chape is sub-triangular in plan, narrower at the base. The sides taper inwards from the top to the base. It has been made from a sheet of metal folded and soldered along the join. Each face is plain and each has a deliberately made circular hole, c. 6.0mm in diameter.
The chape is reddish brown with light green corrosion products. Fragments of leather can be seen within the fold at the top and bottom as well as through both holes.
