An almost complete post-Medieval copper-alloy and gilded mount (1600-1700).
In plan, the mount is roughly shield-shaped and has a small central knop at the top and a larger knop with a pointed terminal at the bottom. It is moulded at the front and flat at the rear. The front has a moulded design which is probably floriate. On the plain rear face, along the longitudinal centre-line, are two integral spikes, one at each end. Each spike is circular in cross-section and the tip of one is missing.
The object is reddish green with flecks of gilding at the front and rear.
Length: 32.1mm; width: 15.6mm; thickness: 2.5mm; thickness including spikes: 7.6mm. Weight: 6.05g.
A similar mount with a floriate design at the front has been published by Brian Read and is dated to the seventeenth century (Read 2001, 28, fig. 20, ref. 293).
