Copper alloy mount fragment. Cast openwork plate, comprising a Greek crosshead within an arc, a slightly expanding cross shaft with a T-shaped terminal and with curvilinear interlace figures in two sub-trapezoid panels forming a field or ground for the cross, as relicts of a more extensive series; the more complete figure appears developed from a strand intruding from its border. The 'Celtic' style of cross and the accompanying details tend to suggest an association with Northumbrian influence over the style of Anglo-Saxon Christianity. The use of openwork may suggest a surface was to be viewed behind the mount, possibly the dyed leather of a book cover. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 675-750.
