A almost complete post-medieval cast lead cloth seal, probably dating to 17th century. The cloth seal is circular shape and is composed by two discs connected by a rectangular strip. The seal shows on both sides a mark. One disc reports the number 20, the other one depicts a small sword or a dagger with stwo stars on both side of the blade, inside a shield. Between the central decoration and the external edge is a damaged inscription but only the letters L E T can be seen. The seal measures 24.18mm in diameter and weights 11.51g.
A good number of similar cloth seal are recordered on PAS database, for example ESS-C8CE3B, ESS-3D8148, SOM-EE9D2E and NMS-5D7600. The record ESS-3D8148 explain that the shield represents the arms of the Dutch city of Haarlem, with the number 20 referring to the length of the fabric in Dutch ells. For a pubblisced reference see Egan, G. (1994), Lead Cloth Seal and Related Items in the British Museum, British Museum Occasional Paper 93.
