An Iron Age silver unit with no direct parallel as yet. The obverse is most similar to Rudd's ABC 2116, the 'Facing Horses' type of the East Wiltshire tribe (dating c.50-35 BC)while the reverse is most similar to the 'Abingdon Zoo' and 'Abingdon Head' types of Rudd's Berkshire tribe (dating c.55-40 BC; ABC 1004 and 1007).
The edges of the flan are a little jagged between 9 and 12 o'clock on obverse. The reverse is dished.
Obverse: Two horses with large pellet eyes rearing face to face, beaded double U-shape between their open mouths. Below another pair of horses, heads turned away from each other, curved necks touching, lozenge-shape below. Between the four horses an eight-pronged sun. Pellet and ring in field.
Reverse: Horse right with ladder mane, sun with pellet centre in front (probably eight prongs, only seven visible; edge damaged); boar below, smaller fatter horse vertically arranged above to left of field (nose downwards).
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
Subsequent action after recording: Returned to finder
