A fragment from a copper alloy spherical animal "crotal" bell of Post-Medieval date. Only a fragment of one sphere survives. The fragment is 47mm in length, 21mm high and 2mm thick. It is curved in profile. One edge is incomplete due to recent breaks while the other edge is complete and decorated with a median band. The outer surface of the bell has been tinned.
When complete this fragment would have formed a bell consisting of two halves joined by a raised median band. The upper half would have two perforated circular holes on each half on the object. Between each perforation would be an integral sub-rectangular attachment loop. On the lower half two circular perforations would have been joined by a rectangular perforation.
An example of a complete bell of this type which can be found on the database is LVPL-C9A17B, https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/704392.
