A fragment of a copper alloy La Tène III type, Nauheim derivative brooch dating from the 1st century BC to 1st century AD. The fragment consists of the upper part of the bow and part of the spring. The bow is sub rectangular in shape, thin and slightly convex. The bow narrows slightly towards the lower half and ends in an old break. The front of the bow is decorated with an incised line running along each edge, part of which is missing near the spring. The bow narrows at the top into a strip which curves round into the spring. The spring consists of two and a half loops, including the chord which runs underneath them. There is no decoration on the reverse of the bow. The fragment measures 22.4mm in length, 8.4mm in width at the bow, and 1.3mm thick. The spring measures 10.43mm by 9.9mm, and is 1.9mm thick. The fragment weighs 2.18g.
The fragment is similar to a brooch illustrated in Hattatt 2000, p. 290, fig. 149, no. 11.
