AMPULLA

Unique ID: LIN-6A4720

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A medieval lead pilgrim's ampulla. The ampulla is of the typical flask shape, originally having a sub-rectangular neck and circular chamber. The neck is missing, but the edge running across the object from shoulder to shoulder is rather neat and may suggest the ampulla was cut in order to release its contents. A small handle survives on either shoulder. One face of the chamber is decorated with a scallop shell motif; the other is worn blank.
