A complete Medieval to post-Medieval copper-alloy open thimble or sewing ring (c. 1450-c. 1650).
It is circular in plan and the sides taper inwards from the bottom to the top. The outer face has a line of circular indentations or drilled pits spiralling anti-clockwise (right-hand spiral) from the base towards the top.
The thimble is reddish brown.
Height: 8.5mm; diameter at base: 15.6mm; diameter at top: 13.7mm. Weight: 1.56g.
A similar thimble has been published and dated c. 1500 (Holmes 1988: 2, fig. 4).
