Description: The artefact is a finger ring which appears to be coiled four times with the two terminals forming snake heads. The coils of the are close together and although appear to be coiled are, on closer inspection are cast as one piece. The snake heads overlap the outer face of the finger ring and are decorated with fine crescents and notches. The surface of the finger ring is a shiny light silvery colour with some corrosion on the interior surface which is a brown colour.
Dimensions:
Length: 23.74mm
Width: 21.32mm
Thickness: 3.69mm
Weight: 7.5g.
Discussion: The material of the finger ring does not appear to be silver, it is too light in weight and the tarnishing/corrosion does not match that which is normally found on silver objects. Although the finger ring appears to be Roman, the cast method of manufacture and the material being a white metal alloy suggests it is of Modern date.
