Medieval (13th to mid 14th centuries) folding clasp: The copper alloy folding clasp has a sub-rectangle frame in plan. The strap bar is a sub-rectangle in section and slightly narrowed. The edge opposite the strap bar has an integral human face, the eyebrows are formed by a pair of obliquely angles grooves, the nose is a sub-triangle in high-relief. The reverse of the face is hollow. The sides of the clasp are slightly convex on the exterior and concave on the interior. The frame has a matte dark green/grey coloured patina. It measures 24.55mm long and 15.84mm wide. It weighs 2.33g.
In Egan and Pritchard (2002) there is a similar clasp, No. 568 dated to the 13th to mid 14th centuries. A very similar clasp has been recorded from Aston Cantlow, Warwickshire; WAW-2D0C57.
