An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy single-loop buckle (c. 1250-c. 1350). Meols type 11.

The sheet roller and plate are missing.

The frame is oval in shape with an offset narrowed bar. The outer edge is expanded and recessed to accommodate a copper-alloy sheet roller on which the pin-tip rested. The tapering pin is 'D'-shaped in cross-section flat at the rear.

This buckle has a dark green patina.

Frame: length: 16.6mm; width: 17.3mm; thickness: 3.8mm.

Pin: length: 10.0mm; width at loop: 2.2mm.

Overall weight: 2.22g.

A similar buckle has been published and dated c. 1270-1350 (Egan & Pritchard 1991: 76, fig. 46, ref: 317).

A similar buckle is illustrated in Griffiths et al (2007: 90, pl. 14, ref: 551) where it is dated c. 1250-c. 1350 and categorised as a Meols type 11.
